A guide to what to buy and keep stock of in your kitchen to last a 3 week shut down.
Grocery shopping on a regular basis is already complicated, but planning for a 3 week shut down can make it seem even more stressful. Personally, I didn’t even know where to start or what foods I should focus on. To cope, I reassessed my food pantry and saw what I already had in my kitchen. Buying non-perishable foods was easy, because it eliminates the stress of your food spoiling. However, you can’t survive only off of canned foods. You need vegetables and fruit in your system, especially during a pandemic. Below is a list of foods that I have bought for myself and recommend that everyone else does as well!
- Garlic It’s a staple ingredient that I use in all my foods to add extra flavor.
- Onions Same as garlic, it’s a staple ingredient that I use in all my foods to add extra flavor.
- Broccoli I love broccoli, especially cheesy broccoli, so I always make sure I have it in my fridge.
- Hamburger Helper It’s convenient to have in your life, especially on those days where you don’t feel like cooking!
- Spam A staple in Filipino diet, but also can last for a very long time.
- Alfredo Sauce I recommend because it’s good for your soul! Also easy to make.
- Spaghetti Noodles You need carbohydrates in your system, and spaghetti is one of the best ways to make sure you fill up your Food Pyramid.
- Rice Same idea as spaghetti noodles, except rice is much more versatile.
- Canned Tuna It’s important to eat other proteins besides just meat, not only to switch up your diet but fish also have other vitamins and omega-3 fatty acids that are good for you.
- Canned Soups Another meal that’s quick and easy to make when you’re too lazy to cook.
Obviously these are not the only things you should buy, and it’s all up to personal preference. Read more about what you should buy here. Stay safe and stay stocked!
