After seeing many arguments arise on Twitter on which fruits are superior to one another, I’ve decided to make my own ratings of fruits and weigh out the pros and cons of each.
For the sake of the post’s length, I’ve limited my list of fruits to persimmon, blueberries, apples, oranges, peaches, raspberries, and watermelon. My ratings of these fruits are not meant to be universal, and are personal opinions only. I’m sorry if these opinions offend whoever reads this. The list starts with 1 being the best and 7 being the worst.
- Persimmon I have no complaints about this fruit. There are genuinely no flaws. Persimmons have the crispness that gives apples their edge against the other fruits, and the sticky sweetness that mangoes have that make them irresistable. Persimmons tend to be a bit small, so I always want to eat another one. It’s truly a trap. The best part is that there are no seeds! Meaning that you can eat everything besides the leaves on top. With apples, you can’t eat the core otherwise the seeds may make you sick.
- Watermelon The crunch you get from eating a cold watermelon slice is unbeatable. The watery sweetness from each bite is more refreshing than water itself. However, there are some cons to watermelon that put it at #2 on my list. Getting seeds caught in your mouth is annoying, and spitting them out can sometimes be uncomfortable as the seeds can get stuck on your lip without realizing. To add on, you have to watch when you bite near the rine, otherwise you might get a small taste of bitterness.
- Peaches They have the look and the taste! Peaches are aesthetically pleasing with its furry skin and light pink color, making it a favorite for many. Their taste is also loved by many, as it has a subtle sweetness that isn’t overpowering. My only issue with them is that their crispness is hard to keep; if you leave peaches sitting out for even a little bit, their bite becomes soft.
- Oranges The sweetest fruit of them all. The levels of sweetness that oranges can achieve make me want to put it higher on my list, but there are more cons than there are pros. First of all, it’s extremely hard to peel with your hands. Oranges aren’t something you can’t randomly decide to eat on the go. You have to plan for it and cut the slices beforehand. Furthermore, the white parts of the orange take away from the sweetness that oranges can have. Lastly, orange can be extremely messy to eat as the juice usually drips down my hand when eating them.
- Apples Apple’s cripsness is its main attracting point. Eating an apple when its cold and crunchy adds an extra oomph to its flavor. Another trait is has against the other fruits is that you can eat the skin. However, much like peaches, it’s hard to keep their crispness. Even after 30 minutes, apples may start to brown and lose its crunch. While you can prevent this with peaches by putting them in the fridge, this same trick won’t work with apples.
- Blueberries I honestly have no hard feelings for blueberries. They’re not great, but they’re not terrible either. I enjoy that fact that you can eat them like chips, but they don’t taste very good to want to eat them like chips. I only like to eat blueberries with sugar.
- Raspberries Raspberries are terrible. They taste disgusting, look ugly, and feel even worse. As a kid, I convinced myself that I didn’t like them due to their appearance and went 19 years of my life without trying a raspberry. When I finally brought myself to eat one, I absolutely hated it. I immediately regretted it. They’re extremely sour to the point were I wanted to spit it out, which is surprising coming from me because I normally like sour foods. I do not enjoy raspberries whatsoever.
